Elinor Mae Bowman (Howerton)
Elinor Mae Bowman was born on the Hollister Ranch Las Cruses area on Oct. 17, 1930. Eventually moving to the Santa Barbara area where she graduated from SBHS in 1949. She was a cheerleader and outgoing member of her class. This was during the reign of the true “Golden Tornado” football era. She married her high school sweetheart and had 5 children. Quite the wife and energetic mother, Ellie as she is kindly referred to has 15 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She remained active working at “GRC” General Research Corporation where she retired at the age of 68. Known for her quick wit, her political persuasion, historical outlooks and love for sports. One of her best friends Bobb Massett can attest to her vigor and excellence as a cook. All of her many friends enjoyed her selfless company as well as her homemade chocolate chip cookies. She scurried over the years up and down the Santa Barbara coast enjoying walks on the beach, picking up seashells and enjoying Gods creation. Really an exceptional lady who always made you feel comfortable while listening to your thoughts and opinions. She fully shared her life with others as many of you know. Always generous with her belongings though she never held on to them tightly. Each of her grandchildren experienced a love and insight into the depths of her life as they munched on foods she prepared as they sat contently in her well decorated yard and home. Life was always a healthy party with Ellie. She gave her all each and every day. She passed from this life in the presence of many grandchildren as well as her 5 children. Ed Bowman (Barbara), Linda Alamaguer, Billy Bowman, Bobby Bowman and Susie Carrillo (John). Those in attendance witnessed her departure from this earth as her Spirit departed to be in the presence of our Lord.
