Carmen Fierro, born August 29, 1932, of Santa Barbara, CA passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, November 9, 2019. She is survived by her beloved husband, Raul Fierro of 65 years, sister Consuelo Perez, daughter Victoria Pointer (Michael), son David Fierro (Kaylyn). She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Perez and Rosario (Jimenez) Perez, siblings Joseph Perez, Guadalupe Romero, and Esther DeLaTorre. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Brian Pointer (Dalen), Kevin Pointer, Shannon Pointer Sadecki (Ian), Steven Fierro (Miranda), Jaclyn Fierro, Quinn Fierro, and Chase Fierro. She has five great grandchildren, from Brian and Dalen (Luke and Abe), Shannon and Ian (Logan), and Steven and Miranda (Ellory and Mateo).

Carmen arrived in Santa Barbara at age four and attended Lincoln Elementary, Santa Barbara Junior High, and Santa Barbara High School, class of 1951. She worked for local businesses having far-reaching impact in the community, including several lemon packing houses, Knapp Nursery, Woolworth’s, Ott’s Hardware, and Let’s Dine Out. She retired from Santa Barbara County Child Health Department after 16 years of dedicated service to the children and families of Santa Barbara County. She embraced her identity as both a Mexican and American citizen, having travelled the world and welcoming all those she encountered with open arms. Her unconditional love for family kept her heart full. Carmen had an unwavering devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. On many occasions she could be found with a Rosary in her hands praying for her family, friends, and that all those in the world find the same comfort of peace and grace that filled her heart throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by the many people she deeply touched. May she rest in peace with the conviction of her legacy as an endearing matriarch of exemplary character to soothe her in eternity. She will forever be loved and missed by all those she leaves behind.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., December 19, 2019 at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., December 20, 2019 at Our Lady of Sorrows. Her burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery will follow immediately thereafter.
