John Rivas Stivers
John Stivers passed away peacefully on August 23, 2019. John was a much loved son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew, and a loyal friend to many. John was born in Seattle, WA but grew up in Santa Barbara, attending Good Shepherd Lutheran Pre-School, Foothill Elementary School, La Colina Middle School, and Dos Pueblos High School. He was a member of the Santa Barbara Swim Club and a volunteer at the Cottage Hospital ER. He attended SBCC and then the University of Southern California (USC), where he studied Physics and Computer Science, and was a member of the Trojan Swim Club. He loved swimming and a highlight at USC was training with his Olympic heroes, including Ryan Lochte and Vladimir Morozov. John’s sly sense of humor, creative intelligence, and compassion for those in need will be greatly missed. John is survived by his parents Michael and Michelle, brother Alexander, and sister Louise. John is also survived by his grandparents, Donald and Florence Stivers, and Zoila Petzinger. A memorial service for John will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara, on Saturday, September 21, at 2 PM.
