Sue S. Myers
February 21, 1925 – March 15, 2010
Sue S. Myers, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend and incredible role model passed away on the 15th of March 2010. Born Suzanne Seagert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to George Henry Seagert and Haidee Anne Donnelly she lived her formative years there graduating from Peabody High school as an honors student and part of the cheerleader team. These were depression years which heavily contributed to the development of Sue’s strong sense of family continuity, as well as her immense work ethic, acute business acumen and desire to save for her family’s future. Her personal life was defined by a true zest for living, regularly enjoying socializing with friends and family where her acute sense of humor and dry Irish wit were always in true form. Her life was faced by more adversities than most, and her faith and philosophy dictated that she move forward with only the most positive of attitudes.
In 1947 Sue was married to Frederick C. Myers with whom she had three boys; George, Michael and Rick who became her life’s devotion and dedication. During the decade of the 1950’s the family enjoyed living in numerous places, including Japan, Panama and Florida.
At the end of her 15 year marriage, she began a career and life-change adventure that would come to define her and her family. She and her boys left Florida for Colorado where Sue began a long and vigorous climb up a successful career ladder. From her first position as secretary to a film consultant at the University of Colorado in Boulder, she moved on to increasingly demanding positions of secretary and executive assistant to division heads and/or the presidents of major corporations. Among them were Jeppesen & Co. in Denver, Colorado, and after moving to Santa Barbara in 1964, Pickett Industries, General Motors Research Laboratories, General Research Corporation, and Santa Barbara Research Center, where after many years as secretary to the president, she completed her career as Senior Customer Relations Representative. Being a woman of exquisite taste and style, she was a model for La Belle Modeling Agency for many years, and enjoyed moonlighting positions with high-end local retail clothiers such as Lou Rose and Back Street.
Not to be overshadowed by her drive to succeed in her career and provide for her family was her extraordinary care and compassion for others. Her friends always felt a true sense of interest and concern in their lives, and her core belief in service found opportunities in her participation in annual drives for local non-profits such as the Council of Christmas Cheer, Toys for Tots, Transition House, and Direct Relief International. Her incredible presence notwithstanding, it will be Sue as a friend that was so willing to listen that will be most missed.
Sue is survived by her three boys: George and Michael of Santa Barbara and Rick of Genoa, Nevada, as well as her brother George Seagert of Austin, Texas, and three grandchildren, Britanny Johnson, Carter Myers, and Taylor Myers.
In honor of Sue’s life, donations to Direct Relief International would most appreciated.
