Sitting side by side on the 1900 block of De La Vina Street are Haven Barbershop and the Boom Boom Bike Room, owned by the wife/husband team of Erin and Alex Guerena. Specializing at giving old bikes a new life and old hairstyles a new vitality, Alex and Erin spend some time sharing their passions — including the weekly, open to all, bike rides they host — with filmmaker Kevin Train in volume 7 of the Transmissions video series from Tran and the Santa Barbara Independent. Located in the former Cajun Kitchen spot in a block full of small, locally owned businesses, the couple met in Isla Vista, went to barber school together, and first made their dream of owning a barber shop come true in 2020 (see story about Haven Barber Shop here), followed by the bike shop in 2021 (see story about the Boom Boom Room here).
