Big waves at Santa Barbara’s harbor mouth are unheard of, except when high tide and cyclone-driven swells coincide, as they did on Thursday morning. Videographer Dave Everett captured surfers from across the water at Stearns Wharf: “There were some pretty impressive impacts against the breakwater, and I caught what appeared to be a younger crowd of surfers challenging this normally calm break. Today was probably the most dramatic backsplashes I have ever seen at the breakwater — somewhere in the vicinity of 30-40 feet high!”
