Around a thousand people in Santa Barbara joined the first day of a week-long climate strike, led by students at Santa Barbara High School and City College. The group gathered around De la Guerra Plaza and students were invited to share their concerns about the future and the current administration’s negligence in addressing climate change. One of the speakers reminded the audience that the legal age to register to vote was only 17 and encouraged students to sign up immediately. The group then marched down State Street, to Stearns Wharf, and back again.
Next Friday, dozens of area groups will come together at De la Guerra Plaza around noon to culminate the week’s events. For more, go to climatestrikesb.org.
