Here’s the fifth podcast of Poodle Radio, the weekly-ish program recorded at the KCSB studios and broadcast every Friday morning, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on KJUC, 770/880 AM in the UCSB dorms.
On this week’s broadcast, The Indy‘s senior editor Matt Kettmann chats about new and old media with Warren Schultheis and Ryan Gantz. Schultheis, a former Indy intern and graphic designer, recently launched City2.org, a Web site that aggregates Santa Barbara news articles, hosts community forums, and provides a platform for citizen journalism via its blogs. Gantz is involved with SBNation.com, a Web site that serves as headquarters for blogs written by sports fans across the country.
Following that conversation, longtime Indy writer Shannon Kelley comes on the show to read a tale of personal discovery and humanitarian work in post-Katrina New Orleans. The story was published in a new anthology called Submerged: Tales from the Basin.
Along the way, there are also musical treats, including:
Zee Avi’s “No Christmas for Me,” off This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday Vol. 1, just released by Brushfire Records;
David Piltch’s “A Still Time,” off Ministers of the Interior, just released by Household Ink Records;
Chopteeth’s “Snake Eyes,” off Afrofunk Big Band, just released by Grigri Discs;
Martin Leon’s “Je m’demande,” off Quebec, another wonderful album from Putumayo;
And, lastly but not leastly, ALO’s “Christmas Time,” also off This Warm December.
Listen and enjoy. There should be two more episodes before the year is done.
