The Eastside community’s resolve to reimagine Ortega Park as they wish to see it, not as the city wants to rebuild it, got a hearing on Saturday when 150 people gathered to talk about the murals, the history, and the future of the popular park next door to Santa Barbara Junior High School.
Images of the meeting by Ignacio “Nash” Moreno, a cofounder of Bienestar Latinx — which assembled to help the community thrive during the pandemic — and an award-winning photographer, videographer, and director, appear here. He’s currently working on a documentary on the community’s struggle to preserve the park’s murals and produces the quick-take calls to action being released.
