As zoo animals slept soundly out of sight, Fiesta’s “wildest” party pumped up on the Santa Barbara Zoo’s hilltop. DIGS, or Celebración de los Dignatarios, was attended by many of the city’s movers and shakers (as Indy executive editor Nick Welsh would call them).
Local, leather-badged officials, from city council members to Mayor Randy Rowse to Sheriff Bill Brown to state senator Monique Limón, made appearances for the 5-hour event that aims to celebrate them while raising money for the Zoo and Old Spanish Days.
While watching the vibrant, multicolored sunset over the mountains from the zoo’s gardens, attendees enjoyed food and drinks from a variety of the best local vendors and performances by Mariachi Bands and Flamenco dancers, including Spirit of Fiesta Georgey Taupin.
The flamenco-flavored, rose-wearing crowd sipped on the likes of Juneshine and Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. and nibbled on bites from Rusty’s Pizza, Santa Barbara Fish Market, Los Agaves, Taqueria La Unica, and even Bristol Farms.
Then, in the comfort of the moonlight, everyone headed to the dance floor at the end of the night to enjoy the rhythms of DJ Hecktik. Even the security guards got down to the DJ’s sounds, and could be seen subtly grooving to the mix of Taylor Swift, Hip Hop, EDM, and Musica Mexicana.
The city’s most serious dignitaries let loose for DIGS! All in all, it was a successful and sold-out evening of celebration for two of the city’s most party-loving organizations.
