The American Cancer Society (ACS) and Santa Barbara Trapeze Company (SBTC) partnered to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Saturday, hosting a lively community event at Plaza de Vera Cruz featuring free tacos and parkour and flying trapeze sessions.

Families filled the Haley Street park, where trapeze performers held kids’ admiration and attention as they eagerly waited in line for a sky-high trapeze session of their own.

“Flying trapeze teaches people about overcoming fear, and that courage is something the ACS represents every day, said Randy Kohn, cofounder of Santa Barbara Trapeze Co.

“Together, we can raise awareness and support, all while having fun as a community.”

Attendants learned about ACS’s lifesaving work through interactive games amid surrounding trapeze performances.

“We aimed to emphasize the importance of early detection and provide educational resources to the community,” said Alex Castillo, Development Manager at ACS. “We hope attendees are empowered, informed, and inspired to take action regarding their health.”

The American Cancer Society has been at the forefront of cancer research for more than a century, offering support programs for patients and their families, education about prevention and early detection, and funding for essential research.

“It’s important for the community to know that we are here as a resource, offering hope and help to anyone affected by cancer,” added Castillo.

The partnership between the ACS and SBTC created an educational and engaging event for the Santa Barbara community, raising awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and ACS’s invaluable work.

“We encourage donations that support our ongoing research and patient services, ensuring that we can continue our critical work in fighting cancer,” said Castillo.
