What better way to enjoy a brisk fall evening than with a bit of jazz?
The Tina Schlieske Quintet treated the Lobero Theatre audience to a timeless performance as Schlieske, dressed in a sharp tailored suit and sporting a coiffed side-part, belted out the swinging blues on October 26. Mixing in songs from her recent album The Good Life alongside classics by Nina Simone and Frank Sinatra, the night felt cozy and reflective. Joined onstage by her sister, Laura Schlieske, the duo sang their take on Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland’s beloved “Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again.”
The audience, there for ambience and authenticity, soaked in Schlieske’s humorous stories and witty quips between songs, a cheeky reminder that jazz isn’t always so serious. To end the night, Schlieke jumped off stage, into the crowd, shaking hands and greeting fans as she closed the show, singing Sinatra’s “That’s Life.”
All in all, another beautiful night at the Lobero Theatre.
