Zoom webinar by Maryl B. Gensheimer, Associate Professor of Roman Art & Archaeology at the University of Maryland, sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America and the Classics and History Departments at UCSB, will examine the reasons for baths’ popularity in ancient Rome on the part of a diverse audience: elite and non-elite, male and female, free and enslaved.
In cities across the Roman Empire, from Britain to Morocco and from Spain to Syria, one finds literally thousands of examples of public baths.
