Art From Scrap
Learn about zines and zine-making in this interactive and hands-on workshop led by Dez Alani.
Zines are Do-It-Yourself, mini magazines made for creativity and empowerment, not for profit. Zines are also accessible works of art with a long history of being created, read, and shared by communities left out of mainstream cultural forms of art and media.
Dez will guide folks through some key aspects of zine history, and attendees will be invited to create their own mini zine and contribute to a collaborative group zine.
Dez (they/them) is a queer, biracial zinester, educator, and the founder of Honey Boy Press, a local zine distro based in Santa Barbara. They publish their own zines and support creatives of all types in shaping their zine ideas from content to distribution.
