Whale of a Celebration is a joyous, family-friendly event dedicated to honoring the wonderful whales that grace local waters and celebrating the Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area. The weekend festivities include whale watching on the Condor Express, the “Whales, Ales, and Cocktails” Film Festival, educational exhibits, captivating presentations, and exciting activities for all ages to delve into the fascinating world of whales. Interactive displays will showcase whale behaviors, habitats, and conservation efforts. Expert speakers will share their knowledge, insights, and passion for whales, their significance to our local marine ecosystem, and the importance of preserving their ocean home.

The weekend’s proceeds will support the Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area and help provide local schools with the chance to embark on their own whale watching adventure in the Santa Barbara Channel through our new scholarship program.

Who: The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara is a luxury resort that embodies the charm, beauty, and energy of the Mediterranean. It is distinctly nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains—just minutes from the center of charming and historic Santa Barbara. The Ritz-Carlton’s Community Footprint program mobilizes resources and volunteer efforts to make a difference through important causes to the resort’s local communities. It inspired The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, to support the Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area’s mission and goals by participating in the education and celebration of whales with the local community and visitors.

The Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area includes the waters within the Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. In October 2023, the World Cetacean Alliance and World Animal Protection awarded the Santa Barbara Channel the title of the Ninth Whale Heritage Area in the world. Communities achieve Wildlife Heritage Area designation by playing a central role in protecting wild animals and their habitats and promoting responsible tourism.
