UCSB THEATER DANCE PRESENTS
UCSB DANCE COMPANY
This evening of choreography offers a whole spectrum of contemporary dance: three new works commissioned for the company, and three re-stagings, including an historically significant work by Jose Limon.
New York choreographer Doug Elkins has been described as “musical, witty, and inventive” by the New York Times. He set his work Kinstsugi Variations on the company during a recent residency. Ephrat Asherie of New York was also in residence, creating a new work, Swept In. Both residencies were supported by the Jody and John Arnhold Production Fund. Faculty member Nancy Colahan, former member of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and the White Oak Dance Project, has restaged her compelling work Deep Currents, set to an original score by William Pasley. Brandon Whited, former member of the Shen Wei Dance Company, has reset a male duet, Simple Man, and Meredith Cabaniss, graduate of UCSB, has been commissioned to create a new work, Human Methods, for the company. Alice Condodina, Professor Emerita, who was honored to receive the 2018 Dickson Emeriti Award, has restaged the historic work by Jose Limon, The Unsung.
