The Goleta Valley Art Association will mount its third annual Summer Show and Sale at the Marketplace, an art festival featuring original works by local artists on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta. Sponsors include Art Essentials, Camino Real Marketplace, Limousine Link, Island View Law and The Voice Magazine.

The art show will be held in the outdoor food court area of the plaza and give visitors the opportunity to view and purchase the association’s artwork as well as enjoy the music of local guitarist and artist Greg LeRoy, a well know guitar and art instructor, from 1-4 p.m.

Featured at this year’s event is a display about the organization’s after-school art program in Goleta Union Schools where GVAA members teach art to children in after-hours classes. The program, which was paused due to the pandemic, restarted last fall.

“We are so excited to be yet another show and sale at the Marketplace,” said Elizabeth Flanagan, president of the organization. “It’s a perfect opportunity for local residents and visitors to take home a piece of original art from members of the GVAA and learn about what we bring to the community.”

A portion of proceeds of sales from the show will benefit DignityMoves, a Santa Barbara non-profit partnering with Santa Barbara County to bring a new, first of its kind, interim supportive housing community to the county. The Covid-19 pandemic increased the urgency of building non-congregate housing for those experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Together with the County and other partners, DignityMoves is now embarking on the ambitious endeavor of building enough interim supportive housing to close the shelter gap across the county.

The GVAA began as a small group of artists who first met in March 1963, showing their artwork at a Goleta bank. From its first meeting place in the office of the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce to its present-day site at the Goleta Public Library, the Association has grown from 16 members to over 200 members. The association has resumed monthly exhibitions at the Goleta Public Library.
