Experience a centuries-wide sweep of choral repertoire from the peerless Mozart Requiem to a stunning rainmaking litany by Grammy-winning American composer Christopher Tin.
The first half of our concert will feature Mozart’s Requiem, a timeless piece that has captivated audiences for centuries. Beautiful and haunting, it is one of Mozart’s great musical works – and his last, as he died before completing it. He was only 35. Requiem soloists include soprano Tamara Brevard, mezzo-soprano Tracy Van Fleet, tenor Benjamin Brecher, and bass Dennis Rupp.
The second half will include our ‘greatest hits’ by contemporary composers: Morten Lauridsen, Rollo Dilworth, Ola Gjeilo.
For the finale, we will perform Christopher Tin’s spectacular 13-minute Waloyo Yamoni (We Overcome the Wind) – a rainmaking litany sung in Lango, the emotional heart of which rings true even if you don’t speak the language.
Not only will this be the first time this piece is performed in Santa Barbara, it will also feature soloist Jimmer Bolden, the tenor who performed it at both the U.S. and European premieres (at Carnegie Hall and Cadogan Hall, respectively), and soprano Tamara Bevard.
We have a few more surprises in store, so don’t miss our closing concert of our 75th Anniversary season.
