The Blue Whale Reading Series on Wednesday, November 13 will feature Enid Osborn and Emma Trelles.
Enid Osborn served as Santa Barbara Poet Laureate from 2017-2019. Her book When the Big Wind Comes takes place in her native Southeast New Mexico. Her work appears mainly in Central Coast regional and Southwest journals. She co-edited the anthology A Bird Black as the Sun: California Poets on Crows & Ravens (2011). In addition to poetry, Enid writes songs and reviews.
A poet, writer, and educator, Emma Trelles–Santa Barbara Poet Laureate from 2021-2023–is the author of Tropicalia, winner of the Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize and a finalist for Foreword/Indies poetry book of the year. Trelles teaches creative writing at Santa Barbara City College, where she also coordinates the Writing Center. In April 2022, she became the series editor of the Alta California Chapbook Prize for Latinx poets, which selects two chapbooks for publication in bilingual editions through Gunpowder Press. In 2022, Trelles received an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship.
The reading is hosted by Laure-Anne Bosselaar and Christine Kravetz.
There will be an open mic after the scheduled readers.
