This concert marks significant anniversaries of multiple major Italian composers. The program features Berio’s influential Sequenza III for female voice, employing a wide range of vocal techniques to evoke impassioned emotions; Nono’s revolutionary protest work La fabbrica illuminata for soprano and tape, a spectacular and gripping depiction of harsh factory conditions and their effect on human life; and the California premiere of Agostino DiScipio’s (untitled 2011), a starkly captivating sonic landscape for voice intermingling with electronics.
