Much as there are a lot of helpful services and systems in place for those living with disabilities including caregiving services and Social Security, there are however, fundamental flaws within these services. The effects that the flaws have on people across the spectrum of disability will be explored in this presentation.
Given speakers Dominick Trevethan’s experience living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and Uriel Ruelas’ perspective as his personal caretaker, they have a unique insight to offer those willing to listen regardless of level of mobility. Sharing their insights on what it’s like to live with a disability and what it’s like to be a caretaker is one way they feel they can connect with others and take that step (pun intended) to make the world a better place.
Both speakers will draw from personal experiences, which are sometimes humorous, as well as some moments from interviews with people in the field from their podcast called The Disability Myth on the subject of living with disabilities today, to describe the State of the Disabled Union in 2024.
