he voters of Santa Barbara passed Measure G2018, establishing an independent redistricting commission to redraw county supervisorial district lines after the 2020 census. Independent redistricting is critical to ensuring fair representation for all political parties, communities, and voters.
Santa Barbara is the first county to establish a redistricting commission under a new state law, sponsored by Common Cause, to allow local governments to create independent redistricting commissions.
The League of Women Voters of Santa Barbara and Santa Maria Valley supported this measure and worked for its passage at the polls. We are now encouraging people to apply to serve on the commission.
Join this webinar to learn more about how you can play a lead role in ensuring Santa Barbara County has a fair, inclusive, and transparent redistricting process. We will share more about what it means to serve as a redistricting commissioner and what the application process looks like. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A.
The webinar is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Santa Barbara, CAUSE, California Common Cause, the County of Santa Barbara and the Fund for Santa Barbara.
County residents who meet the eligibility requirements and are committed to fair representation should apply here. by Friday, Aug. 21 at 5 pm
