SBWPC presents: Cosmopolitics 2023

The Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee (SBWPC) is pleased to bring back the first in-person Cosmopolitics in four years to celebrate its 35 year anniversary.  One of SBWPC’s most popular events, Cosmopolitics is an evening of socializing and lively conversations about important political issues facing women in California and the U.S.  This year’s event will take place on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the Santa Barbara Club from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

California State Controller Malia Cohen will be the featured speaker.  In 2010 Ms. Cohen was elected to District 10 of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and was re-elected to a second term in 2014.  As supervisor, Cohen introduced legislation that expanded an existing San Francisco law making it illegal to sell firearms with magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds.  The gun control legislation passed unanimously. In 2015 Cohen publicly defended San Francisco’s sanctuary city laws. Cohen was elected as State Controller in November 2022 following her four-year term on the California Board of Equalization.
