The public is invited to the Surfrider Foundation, Santa Barbara Chapter’s bi-monthly General Meeting & Mixer. Pizza, beer and light refreshments will be served, followed by an eye opening presentation by Dr. Everett Lipman, a chapter Executive Committee member who has monitored Goleta Beach since 2015 and has amassed an amazing archive of nearly 60,000 photographs.
He will discuss “Science, Politics, and Coastal Armoring at Goleta Beach Park.”
For more than 20 years, the Santa Barbara chapter of Surfrider Foundation has been working to minimize the impacts of fixed coastal armoring at Goleta Beach.
Immobile structures such as seawalls, rock revetments, and groins disrupt natural coastal processes and have been seen to destroy beaches all over the world.
In this presentation, Dr. Lipman will describe what we have learned from this effort, and what our options are as the coastline faces an uncertain future.
