with Denise Zaverdas Saturday, March 30 / 2-4:30 pm $45 in advance / $50 day-of Inversions are essential to a well-balanced Yoga practice, and for good reasons. In the upending of ones relationship to gravity, the regular practice of inversions is said to positively influence the cardiovascular, lymphatic, nervous and endocrine systems of the body. Any pose where the heart is higher than the head is considered and inversion, so technically, Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) is an inversion. The rock stars of inversions, Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Balance) and Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand), get most of the attention in classes, as they are dynamic and visually exciting. They call for upper body and core strength, and of course a good dose of courage to change ones orientation to the world. We will foster strength and courage to balance upside down on our forearms and hands, however in this workshop, more attention will be given to the often-ignored, royalty of inversions. The King (Sirsasana Headstand) and Queen (Salamba Sarvangasana Shoulder Stand) require a good measure of reverence and caution. They can load the neck with weight and extreme flexion, so without proper alignment and support, injury to the cervical spine can occur, which is why this royal couple has fallen out of favor with many Western yogis. In this workshop, we will explore the necessary steps and modifications to create a SAFE and SUPPORTIVE inversion practice for rock stars and royalty taking a deep dive into the heating, cooling, stimulating and calming worlds of the king and queen. All levels welcome! To register click here. Denise Zaverdas, longtime gravity surfer and lover of inversions, enjoys sharing the process of creating a safe and sustainable yoga practice. She is passionate about alignment and aligning with joy. With over 18 years and 15,000 hours of teaching experience, Denise, an E-RYT 500 instructor, is well-versed in the uniqueness of each student, yet recognizes the similarities that guide us inward and onto our mats. http://www.denisez.com
