A dance with the devil.
A girl and a lie.
A community gripped by hysteria.
This is the Salem of Robert Ward’s The Crucible, where reputations and lives are on the line and the truth is on trial.
The Crucible’s ominous story of the Salem Witch Trials, based on Arthur Miller’s allegorical play of the McCarthy era continues to awe audiences in the age of modern-day witch hunts, shifting truths, and crowd-sourced information.
Opera Santa Barbara brings this tale of personal integrity and moral dissent to life on the Lobero stage in a gripping new production by rising star director Stephanie Havey. Wayne Tigges portrays the conflicted John Proctor, Audrey Babcock his courageous wife Elizabeth, and Anya Matanovic the malicious Abigail Williams. Kostis Protopapas conducts the swift-moving and emotional score.
Not recommended for children under 12.
