Ojai Pops Concert Series- Free 8/27/23 @ 2:30pm

The Ojai Pops Concert Series will present the second of five FREE Community Concerts on Sunday, August 27, 2023. The Ojai Pops Concert Series is sponsored by the City of Ojai and Music 4 Kids a nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide low-cost music lessons, instruments, and free concerts.

The concert will feature Slideways at 2:30 pm and the Tuxedo Junction Jazz Band at 3:30 pm.

The Slideways Trombone Quartet has been playing together for six years and features a wide variety of music in their programming, from classical to pop and jazz. The four players today are Eric Heidner, Lisa Price, Paul Gaddis and Stephen Hughes. Slideways regularly plays in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Goleta as evening entertainment in local restaurants, patriotic events and even busking during the holidays or Santa Barbara Downtown’s First Thursday events.  Slideways is a sub-group of the Santa Barbara Trombone Society (SBTS) is an alliance of trombone players from SBCC, UCSB, Westmont College, local high schools, and community members of all ages, whose goals are to entertain and to educate people about the trombone. In addition to formal concerts at SBCC, the nearly 20-person ensemble also plays a number of other public venues throughout the area. Recently they performed a concert featuring Santa Barbara Principal Trombonist, Dillon MacIntyre.

Tuxedo Junction Jazz Band plays Dixieland and Jazz music. You can expect to hear tunes such as Basin Street Blues, All of Me, Doxy, Cold Duck Time, and All of Me. Tuxedo Junction Jazz Band consists of Scott Weiss – Trumpet, Brandon Boyd – Sax, Brad Strickland – Guitar, Greg Spaulding – Piano, Norbert Tan -Drum, and Jim Wade – Bass. All of the musicians are part of the Ojai Pops Orchestra. All the musicians have extensive performing backgrounds.
