Emily Jacobs, Ph. D., Associate Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences, UCSB, will discuss the intersection between gender equity in STEM and the status of women’s health—not as concurrent phenomena, but connected ones. She examines critical ways in which progress in women’s health has stalled from the lack of female representation in biomedicine, including neuroscience.
Thursday, January 18, at 1:30 pm. at Direct Relief, 1600 Wallace Becknell Road, Goleta. This free event is sponsored by Santa Barbara – Goleta Valley AAUW and is open to the public.
Emily Jacobs holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Neuroscience from Smith College. She has been named a Hellman Fellow, a Brain and Behavior Young Investigator, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholar, a National Institutes of Health “BIRCWH” Women’s Health Fellow, and a National Academy of Sciences Frontiers of Science Fellow for “distinguished young scientists under 45.” In 2022, she was named in the top 10 scientists to watch by Science News. In addition to her research, the Jacobs Lab advocates for diversity in science at the national and international level.
