SBCC School of Extended Learning: Mind & Supermind Lecture – Awakening the Heart: Self-Care and Resilience in Uncertain Times
That we live in uncertain times – socially, politically, environmentally – is beyond question. How can we stay awake and present to this without feeling overwhelmed or becoming burnt out? In this upcoming talk, Radhule Weininger, MD, Ph.D., and Michael Kearney, MD will discuss a model of self-care and resilience based on mindfulness, self-compassion, and nature connection that they have presented to health care workers, university and high school students, educators, firefighters, and elderly individuals living in skilled nursing facilities.
Radhule Weininger, MD, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and teacher of Buddhist meditation and Buddhist psychology, is the guiding teacher of the One Dharma Sangha and was the resident teacher of mindfulness practice at the La Casa de Maria Retreat Center for 17 years.
Michael Kearney, MD has over 35 years’ experience of working in palliative care, currently works at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Serenity House and emphasizes a spiritual model of self-care based on mindfulness and nature connection.
Michael and Radhule founded the non-profit Mindful Heart Programs which teaches mindfulness at Santa Barbara High Schools and holds mindfulness facilitator training both in the Santa Barbara Community.
