The Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara presents for the 15th year, a free program to honor Dr. King and all he stood for.
Due to the COVID Restrictions, this year’s event is taking place outside at De la Guerra Plaza from 10 am to 1 pm. Broken into two parts – Morning Program 10 – 11:15am and – Mid-Day Program from 11:30am – 1 pm.
Both will have live music, dance, and the always inspiring essays and poems from the two dozen winning students from the Santa Barbara School District. Submissions followed the theme of a quote from Dr. King: “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all directly.” Entrants were put in two age groups: six to 12 and 13 to 18. Two dozen students came out winners, nine for essays and 15 for poetry. All winners are up on the MLKSB website here: https://mlksb.org/what-we-do/essay-poetry-contest/
Keynote speaker will be Guy R. Walker who is president of Endowment for Youth Community whose quote, “Everything we do is about providing young people with the support and resources they need to succeed,” says it all.
Please consider making a donation to the MLKSB Committee to keep these programs and outreach in place.
