Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick… BOOM!

Out of the Box Theatre Company — a non-profit theatre company dedicated to producing alternative, conversation-inspiring contemporary musical theatre — will be starting off 2022 and returning from their Covid-19 hiatus with Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick… BOOM!  Directed by Samantha Eve, the limited engagement of this musical will run one weekend only – April 29-May 1, 2022 (Friday – Sunday) at Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara, CA. Lighting design by Theodore Michael Dolas. Music direction by Sarah Phillips Eglin.

Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick… BOOM!. This autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning composer of Rent, is the coming-of-age story of a composer approaching his 30th birthday in the year 1990, trying to determine if he should sacrifice his artistic ideals for a more stable lifestyle. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city and his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, but Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical. This exhilarating, funny, and moving work by the late Larson will speak to anyone who’s ever gotten lost on the way to finding their dreams.
