Hiking the Continental Divide Trail with thru-hiker Terry Sparks
Of the three trails that comprise the Triple Crown of thru-hiking, (the Pacific Crest Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, and the Appalachian Trail), the Continental Divide Trail is considered the most rugged and remote. The 3,100-mile long trail stretches from the Mexican border to the Canadian border, passing through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. The trail requires hiking through 800 miles of desert and elevations over 14,000′; and takes you through Rocky Mountain, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Parks.
Join accomplished thru-hiker Terry Sparks as he shares images and stories from his trek along the backbone of North America. Terry is a retired Firefighter, Wilderness EMT, backpacking instructor, and Volunteer Wilderness Ranger with Los Padres National Forest. He has hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, and now the Continental Divide Trail, and next winter will start hiking the Appalachian Trail.
This free talk is part of the ongoing Wilderness Hiking Speaker Series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The talks are the third Thursday of the month and feature topics related to hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.
The next talk in the series is Thursday, September 19th, Sky Islands of the Santa Barbara & Ojai Mountains with James Wapotich.
