Ever wonder how we Americans got ourselves into this gun mess? And how did firearms become the #1 cause of death for minors in America? Or what gun violence actually costs the public (you and me) every year? Or which 45 states allow open carry of firearms in public? Or how can we talk with gun advocates about gun violence in a sensible way?
You are not alone. Artist Dana Zurzolo’s long-term research concerning gun culture, mass shootings, collective trauma, legal wrangling and the gun industry is surprising, shocking and hidden. Join her as she shares her knowledge creatively, visually, with humor and insight.
Gun Etiquette: The Gun Game Show is designed to amuse, entertain and inform you. It will give you cultural history, context and facts so you can discuss these issues with others. Behind all the horror, the rhetoric, the legislation, thoughts and prayers, and statistics, are real people with real experiences, fears, stories, and traumas, waiting and hoping for yet-to-be-discovered solutions.
There are real scars in (or on) each of us in our communities. And there are real facts about our current conditions; actual data. And though we are overwhelmed, we need to talk about these facts and feelings. Hence the game! It aims to give you a wider vocabulary with which to approach the gun issue and your personal beliefs. You need merely be brave enough to show up! You will be surprised!
