The Medicine Wheel is a traditional place of ceremony for the Native American Indians of the Northwest United States.

The Medicine Wheel has been created as a place where the Santa Barbara community can come to give thanks, ask for assistance from the Universe, Source and guides and teachers.

The ceremony starts by purifying the energy fields of each participant with a Native American tradition called smudging. Sage is burned to cleanse the aura before using the circle. Next participants find their place on the wheel according to the energy of the four directions and what they wish to pray for during the ceremony. When standing in the North one asks for guidance and wisdom.  Standing in the  South is for the healing of the body. The East is the place to request help with new beginnings and the West is for releasing what does no longer needed.

Participants receive a pinch of tobacco before the ceremony starts. The energy of each direction is called in and then the tobacco is scattered in the wheel. Next drumming and Native American songs add to creating the sacred space  to offer prayers. Each person can take a turn saying aloud or silently their requests and the group supports their prayers.

This Medicine Wheel carries the energy of the wolf, the energy of the teacher and healer.

When finished, we close the circle and give thanks for this opportunity to talk to the great spirit.
