Learn about the historic and scientific significance of the Mount Wilson Observatory during a free talk presented by the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Hear the story from Tim Thompson, a longstanding member of the astronomical community, volunteer at Mt. Wilson since 1981, and science advisor for the Mt. Wilson Institute’s board of directors. Thompson worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for 27 years, where he received two NASA group achievement awards for his work with radio wave astronomy. Dedicated to working with the public, Thompson spent decades teaching as well as studying astronomy. He has been president of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society 12 times.
