CSJ Film Screening: The Invisible Class

Committee for Social Justice will be hosting a sneak preview of the new social justice documentary The Invisible Class at Goleta Valley Community Center 5679 Hollister Ave, Goleta, CA 93117 on March 22, 2025. There will be a brief reception beforehand as well as a short panel for discussion and Q&A at after the film. Guests on our panel will include the board of Directors of the Committee for Social Justice who have lived experience in homelessness.

Mass homelessness in America didn’t always exist in America and until the 1980’s “homeless” wasn’t even a term that was often used. Now in modern times, homelessness is an epidemic across The United States, and it continues to grow on a daily basis. What is it like to be homeless today? How did we get here? What is the solution? Why is homelessness constantly misunderstood? From the tunnels beneath Las Vegas to our nation’s capital The Invisible Class travels all across The United States to tell the stories of homeless families, veterans, the elderly, and more, while also directly demonstrating the systemic cause that created mass homelessness and perpetuate it. The solution is there, it just requires awareness and action.

This film screening is a part of The Invisible Class’s campaign with network of homeless advocacy organizations, mental health professionals, affordable housing advocates, and more to generate awareness about contemporary homelessness, restoring affordable housing to historical levels, and discussing criminalization.
