Contra Dance – $10 Rhythm Method Stringband

Contra Dance Rhythm Method Stringband/Jeff Spero calls Sun 8/4 – SB Carrillo Recreation Center 100 E Carrillo in the large ballroom with the sprung floor. $10 6-9pm

The Rhythm Method Stringband will come up from Los Angeles, and combines the music of Steve Shapiro on banjo, Olivia Breidenthal on fiddle, and Emil Olguin on guitar.

Jeff Spero, our caller, is a multi-tasker at our dances. Last week he came as a dancer, two weeks before he played keyboard with the Syncopaths, and for this dance he will be calling. Jeff likes to put dancers at ease with clear teaching and a calm and cheerful presence. He enjoys helping everyone get as much fun out of each dance as possible.

Contra Dance is also GREAT exercise while we are also having great fun. It is also great memory training because every dance is different all night long. We are walked through a couple simple moves that repeat, and the only goal is to have fun dancing!

We start the dance at 6pm with easy dances. We find it helpful for new dancers to pair them with experienced dancers. We recommend this for the first dance. We are walked through each dance all night long, and when the music starts, the calls continues until we learn the dance. Contra Dance is at the Carrillo Ballroom with the sprung floor (easy on the body).

$10 6-9pm

The band takes a break in the middle. At the end of each half, we can dance a waltz. And during the break (with snacks), recorded music is played for East and West Coast swing dance, Country Dance, and more.
