An evening service intended for rest and contemplation. Compline is led by the Rev. Sarah Thomas. Begins with synthesized ambient music by DJ artist, Andrew Elia, then a transition with loose-leaf brewed herbal tea, and concludes with the opportunity to hear a person share a personal story.
This month’s storyteller is Irwin Appel. Irwin is a professional director, actor, and composer who has worked with Shakespeare Festivals across the U.S. He is also the founder and artistic director of Naked Shakes, producing Shakespeare’s plays in the United States and internationally since 2006. Recently in Europe, he played the title role in King Lear for Lit Moon World, as well as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice and Sir John Falstaff in Henry IV, Part 1 for the Prague Shakespeare Company. In 2025, he will direct his original adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry VI plays in York, England, opening on Shakespeare’s birthday in April. He is Professor of Theater at University of California Santa Barbara.
Incense and candlelight are used during the service. Trinity is an LGBTQ+ welcoming and affirming congregation. www.trinitysb.org/compline
