An evening service intended for rest and contemplation.
Compline is led by the Rev. Sarah Thomas. Begins with synthesized ambient music by DJ artist, Andrew Elia, then a transition with loose-leaf brewed herbal tea, and concludes with the opportunity to hear a person share a personal story.
This month’s storyteller is Ellen O’Connell Whittet, whose book What You Become In Flight was published in 2020. Ellen will share a story about the joy and fear of caring for her two young daughters in the midst of a difficult health diagnosis, especially the decisions in and out of her control as she navigates the threat of breast cancer. Her daughters have relied on her to eat, but she has also relied on them to nurse as long as possible to cut her cancer risks. That has made this season of early motherhood a very precious and very fraught experience.
Incense and candlelight are used during the service. Trinity is an LGBTQ+ welcoming and affirming congregation. www.trinitysb.org/compline
