Chinatown Remembered: A Celebration of Santa Barbara’s Chinatown

January 31 and February 1 from 6:30pm to 10pm
El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park
(123 E. Canon Perdido Street)

Join us for a breathtaking celebration of Santa Barbara’s rich cultural heritage with Chinatown Remembered: A Celebration of Santa Barbara’s Chinatown. This two-night event is a free, family-friendly experience that honors the traditions of the Chinese New Year while shedding light on the vibrant yet overlooked history of Santa Barbara’s Chinatown.

Produced by the Santa Barbara Asian American/Pacific Islander Network in partnership with the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, Chinatown Remembered will feature an immersive projection installation co-produced by creative directors, The Environment Makers. The projections bring to life the stories, culture, and community spirit of the Chinatown that existed before the earthquake of 1925. Adding to the festivities, the Camarillo Lion Dance Association, will kick-off both evenings with a special performance.

Guests can explore the installation anytime between 6:30 PM and 10:00 PM on the grounds of El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park, where history and modern artistry collide in a meaningful tribute to Lunar New Year traditions and the enduring legacy of Asian American communities in Santa Barbara.

This event is made possible through the collaboration and support of local artists, historians, and community organizations committed to promoting inclusivity and understanding. Funding support was provided by the Racial Equity Fund of Santa Barbara County with the Fund for Santa Barbara and the City of Santa Barbara’s Community Arts Grant Program.

Free event parking in the lot at 117 E. Canon Perdido Street and, behind Panino at 834 Santa Barbara Street.
