Celebrate Chinese New Year

Continuing the tradition of celebrating the Chinese New Year in Santa Barbara’s original Chinatown favorite that was once Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens and is now home to Three Pickles Deli and The Pickle Room chef/owner Clay Lovejoy has some great specials he’ll be rolling out over the two-week Spring festival. ‘I’ll have different specials throughout the two-weeks,’ he said. ‘Starting with Fortune Cookies for every order until they run out!’ Lovejoy’s special menu items at the deli:Slowroasted Pork Bahn Mi and a Chili Verde Soup (described, ‘like a green pozole’)for example. You can’t beat the classic red cocktail bar and the pagoda roof that defines the room over the stock of fine liquors served to get in the mood for this celebration. A very special treat for those patrons of Jimmy’s will be Tommy Chung’s famous Sliced BBQ Pork. Those mouthwatering medallions of marinated pork will take you back in time. Clay has the original recipe so make a date to stop in a few times to check out the rotating choices of specials. Special drinks include the original recipe for Jimmy’s Mai-Tai, of course, and the oh so clever bar-tending crew is designing other special drinks to whet your palate with a Chinese theme or flavor.Special bar food celebrating the pig will be highlighted too. The late, great Bob Lovejoy’s infamous quote of ‘Pigs are People Too’ is on a Special limited run Chinese red t-shirt with both logos noted on the shirt along with a Year of the Pig graphic design.
