Petrella, First Lady of Country-Soul Honored as 2018 HistoryMaker Appearing in Santa Barbara
The HistoryMakers of Chicago, the Nation’s largest African American Video Oral History Archive, which is housed permanently at the Library of Congress’ Reading Room, chooses individuals who are true examples of leadership and whose stories are those of perseverance, success and achievement often in face of great odds. This describes Petrella, The First Lady of Country Soul. As an independent singer/songwriter and an African American female in the country music industry, Petrella has been faced with discrimination, resistance and stonewalling at every turn. Without the advantage of a major label behind her Petrella has the released seven studio albums from which a number of her songs have appeared on the Top 100 Country Singles charts. In March 13, 1993 the music Trade Magazine Cashbox featured her on the cover and her single “I Found Somebody” placed her as the #1 Indie and at #53 on Cash Box Top 100 Country Singles and #14 on the Billboard Hot Single Sales.
Petrella, and her band “Mixed Influence” will be appearing at Pali Wines, 116 E. Yanonail St., Santa Barbara on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Petrella will perform songs from her 25th Anniversary CA “Shine on Me” as well as some other tunes including her hit “I Found Somebody” written by Glen Frey (Eagles) and “One” penned by Ed Bruce (Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys).
