Today, questions of fact vs. fiction, truth and falsehood, information vs. propaganda have become ubiquitous. We find ourselves with deep yearnings that Truth Be Told.
State Gallery is thrilled to showcase Santa Barbara artist and printmaker Bay Hallowell in an exhibition titled Truth Be Told. During National Poetry Month, Hallowell’s work showcases the idea of the visual impact of words in context as well as out of order.
From Ms. Hallowell’s artist statement – Everything is an experiment. My work is a blend of careful deliberations and in-the-moment decisions. Provocative words, ideas, and images lead into explorations of how shapes, colors, textures and space interact, how they communicate a variety of meanings, messages, and moods. Although I often address serious topics, curiosity and playfulness permeate my process. I aim to involve viewers in musings about Life’s Big Questions.
State Gallery is located in the center of it all in Santa Barbara’s downtown Arts District across from the historic Granada Theatre at 1219 State St.
The exhibition runs through the month of April, concluding Monday April 30th. Gallery Hours are Monday thru Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Sunday hours are 11am to 5pm.
