Awareness Dancing with Kiaora!

Kiaora is our Minister of Music this Sunday!  She says, “I use my 5Rhythms practice to bring my awareness into action and to inform what I offer on the dance floor. Dance is a meditation, a metaphor and potent medicine for life. Recognizing the aspects of our experience that take us into our head, and out of experiencing our movement, is a huge catalyst for our healing. What kind of movement is necessary in us in order to actually stay on the floor? It probably looks and feels a lot different than our usual dance. That’s the kind of real authentic relating to self that I want to invite into our movement vocabulary through the dance journey that I present.

My music choices continue to invite grounded sensual explorations, but I am also starting to pick more challenging songs, music that stirs our impetus to push back; I invite us to practice staying in it, feeling it, and dancing the honesty of that discomfort, while fully breathing and staying in movement.

Ecstatic dance for me isn’t about going towards the happy, easy, feelings; it’s about moving through whatever arises, staying present through honest expression, and encountering our authentic connection to our experience. By practicing this on the dance floor we equip ourselves to have those links in our brains for the daily ins and outs of life; so that when life doesn’t give us our favorite situations, we can keep dancing with them.  At least, that’s my goal!”

Minister of Music Kiaora Fox is the only 5Rhythms© Waves teacher in the Central Coast, she also teaches Yoga and Pilates. For much of her life Kiaora has studied in the healing arts and finds the best way to integrate any of life’s experiences is through exploring the awareness of self in authentic movement.  She brings a robust lifetime of wisdom in embodiment practices to her role as Minister of Music.
