A Little Bird Told Me – Listening to nature is a great way to find your place

Join naturalist and “bird nerd” Dan Fontaine from Wilderness Youth Project as he shares stories about listening to birds and what they have to tell us about what’s going on in the environment around us, as well as within. Did you know that birds can tell us where bobcats, coyotes, and foxes are hiding? That in addition to revealing what’s happening in our surroundings, they can also tell us about our “place in the family of things?”
An avid naturalist, Dan has served as the executive director for Wilderness Youth Project for more than 10 years. Wilderness Youth Project offers nature-based programs for kids age 3-17, after school, during the school-day, and through summer camps, www.wyp.org.
This free talk is part of the ongoing Wilderness Hiking Speaker Series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The talks are the third Thursday of the month and feature topics related to hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.
The next talk in the series is Thursday, August 15th, Hiking the Continental Divide Trail with thru-hiker Terry Sparks.
