County 3-12
Two days before Steve Pappas’s election contest trial was set to resume on 3/11, attorneys for 3rd District Supervisor Doreen Farr-whose seat Pappas is angling for-filed a motion asking Judge William McLafferty to throw out the lawsuit because Pappas has yet to provide evidence of wrongdoing. Farr also asked that leaders of a campus registration drive not have to testify, and that she herself not have to take the stand, because it would “be a waste of the court’s and my time.”

Bacara’s proposed condo project returned before the Goleta Design Review Board (DRB) on 3/10, with modifications implemented to win the public’s favor such as eco-friendly landscape features and expanded public access. Objectors, however, still found the modern design incompatible with Goleta. DRB members lauded designers’ efforts to make the project more appealing but ultimately opted to continue the matter to 4/14. (/bacara312)

The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) decided on 3/5 not to extend the City of Goleta’s sphere of influence past its border, largely at the urging of residents who didn’t want to fall under Goleta’s jurisdiction. Consequently, areas such as the Glen Annie Golf Course and land on North Fairview Avenue will remain unincorporated parts of Santa Barbara County.
