Green Shorts Film Festival
Now Open for Submissions
“Bringing it Home” is the theme for the second annual Green Shorts Film Festival. The Community Environmental Council of Santa Barbara, sponsoring the contest, is open for submissions now, and will be accepting short films until March 26.
The 2010 festival coincides with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. It is an online event highlighting the importance of being a green community, starting with bringing sustainability into our own homes. Megan Diaz, outreach coordinator at CEC, explained, “With this theme, we hope to engage the community to think about solutions by helping raise awareness regarding eating and growing local food, sustainable transportation, sustainable living, energy efficiency, and alternative energy.”
Any resident of Santa Barbara, Ventura, or San Luis Obispo County is eligible to enter the contest. The festival encourages participation of all age levels from elementary and high school to college and up. The children and teen categories are ages 11 and under, and ages 12 through 18. There is also a College Award open to any current college student. There will be varying prizes for different age groups with the top finalist in the running for a Mac book computer.
“Films can be very beneficial at spreading a message in a positive way,” Diaz said. “This contest is an opportunity for people to get involved and share methods in which we can we can use less energy, protect our environment, and reduce our carbon footprint.”
The films will be screened Friday, April 16, at the Lobero Theatre, time TBA.
