Tanker Truck Overturns on 154

The driver of a Greka oil company truck traveling eastbound on Highway 154 early Friday morning lost control while trying to make a left turn onto Zaca Station Road and overturned. Early California Highway Patrol (CHP) estimates stated 900-1,000 gallons of crude diesel fuel spilled from the ruptured 2006 Freightliner semi-truck. The truck contained 5,600 gallons total.

According to County Fire Captain David Zaniboni, several Greka cleanup trucks responded “pretty quickly” to suck up the spilled material. He added that more like 2,000 gallons of material had spilled. Several other agencies, including CHP, and Caltrans also responded.

Greggory Williams, who is 45, was the driver. There were no injuries reported; drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor. By 8 a.m., Highway 154 was reopened, and clean up efforts were moved to Zaca Station Road, which was closed to one lane.
