Introducing Our New Commenting System

Starting today, independent.com is using a new system for reader commentary. Called Disqus, it is a widely popular service used by thousands of websites around the world, and this is a transition we have been intending to make for years. Among other highlights, it allows users to log in and comment using existing social media accounts, but those wishing to remain anonymous are able to easily create new profiles strictly for Disqus as well.

All stories published before today will continue to feature the comments that were posted via the former system. However, there is no longer an ability to add new comments to those stories.

As in the past, we also have a Most Commented Stories box on the right-hand column and a collected page of Today’s Comments at independent.com/comments.

Please be patient as we work out the kinks of integrating this new system onto our website. We are also working on a slight redesign of the homepage followed by an effort to speed up the website as well. We hope to complete those projects in the fall if not sooner.
