At their 4/22 meeting, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors voted in favor of giving $3 million to the County Sheriffs Department towards the purchase of a plot of North County land for the new 300-bed jail facility. The 50-acre site sits near the intersection of Black and Betteravia roads.

Dave Smyser was absent from the 4/22 3rd District Supervisors’ candidate forum about Los Olivos. Smyser, in an email to organizers, said the forum “just wouldn’t fit into my calendar.” A seat was left open in the middle of the table for Smyser. Doreen Farr was also questioned about her absence on Andy Caldwell’s radio show on 4/17, which she said was a result of Caldwell’s endorsement of Smyser and his “extreme bias” in the race.
